Te Kuiti confirmed...

Just to confirm that it IS Christmas Eve, and Mark IS in Te Kuiti...

Overcast start to the day and gradual climb with head wind. Was hoping to have good view of the three volcanoes, but cloud too low. Sun came out all afternoon and after total ascent of 1185mtr had huge descent to finish at 190mtr! Arrived at Te Kuiti just gone 7pm and booked into Motel Te Kuiti. 164km total today - very pleased with that considering terrain, and feeling good!

Base camp been trying to track down Rohloff rear sproket with 16 teeth since Wellington. Main focus was San Francisco, but everyone needed to order it in and wouln’t have it until Friday. So, had a last look at retailers in New Zealand, and found a shop, Te A’Cycles, south of Hamilton in Te Awamutu. Phoned them 8am New Zealand time, and they had the right part, but closing at 5.3opm for Christmas and reopening January 3rd. However, Brett at the shop said he lived nearby and would watch the tracker and help out after closing.

Merry Christmas once again...
